Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway 'nearly doesn't make it on air' after wardrobe malfunction
ITV's Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway revealed a wardrobe malfunction on Thursday 9 May, causing the 57 year old presenter to almost not make it on air.
She told co-host Ed Balls: "Good morning, I've begun the day with a button crisis! For someone who is as clumsy..." as Ed said: "You've got quite a lot of buttons!".
His quip prompted Kate to joke: "It's 145,000 buttons I've had to do up and I did it wrong about seven times so that's the reason why we nearly didn't make it on air this morning".
She then added: "Don't look too closely [at the buttons] because they're probably still skewwhiff! That's why I raced into the studio, barely brushing my hair!".
It comes after Kate recently celebrated her first birthday after the sad passing of her husband and father of her two children, Derek Draper.
The broadcaster turned 57 years old last Saturday, 4 May, after Derek, a former political lobbyist, tragically died at the age of 56 earlier this year following a four-year battle with the devastating effects of Covid, reports the Mirror.
Sharing a heartwarming video on Instagram, Kate showcased her birthday celebrations with her loved ones. The TV host chose to embrace the day with joy, stating: "Well yesterday was another one of those sad 1st's - my first birthday since Derek's passing."
"Woke up feeling so sad and thought well I can either cry all day or celebrate life as he did so well. And thanks to wonderful friends it worked! See you on @ gmb tomorrow from 6 - happy bank holiday weekend everyone! ".
Fans flocked to support her, with one writing: "An inspirational woman, I hope you enjoyed your birthday, you deserve to have had a wonderful day!" A second penned: "Happiest of birthdays beautiful person remember Derek will always be with you & celebrating too."
It came after Kate attended her first red carpet event since Derek's passing. She made her return to the red carpet as she attended the Variety Club Showbusiness Awards, marking the occasion with a number of snaps from the event.
Alongside these, she penned the caption: "Well this was a moment. My first red carpet event, following Derek’s passing - and WHAT an event. I’ve been aware of the incredible work @variety does over its 75 years to help disabled & disadvantaged children & heard that it’s awards do’s are always the glitziest.
"I was so pleased to have an invite to attend but then to actually WIN an award was an incredible honour - a silver heart for Outstanding Contribution to TV & Radio - I guess if you cling on long enough you eventually make a contribution!!!!!!"
She added: "And then to be presented it by @benshephardofficial - so special. Congrats to all the winners @j_corden @sheridansmithster @thejanemcdonald @joancollinsdbe @crouchy @global @ashleytaborking #bradleywalsh @mralfieboe & so many more. #humbling #grateful".
