Kate Garraway has given fans a glimpse of her garden, admitting it had left her feeling "overwhelmed" following the death of her husband Derek Draper.

The Good Morning Britain host, 57, tragically lost her beloved husband earlier this year after he battled serious health issues for four years. Derek, 56, was hospitalised with Covid in 2020 and had his wife and their two children Darcey, 18, and Billy, 14, by his side throughout his ordeal.

Kate returned to her TV duties shortly after Derek's funeral and has been candid about her grieving process. She recently celebrated her first birthday without her husband, surrounded by her family. Kate's parents gifted her a wheelbarrow as she confessed her garden had "got so out of control" while she's "been racing around trying to keep head above water".

Over the weekend, Kate updated fans on her progress and shared a peek at her garden for the first time, reports the Mirror. The TV personality gave a tour of her "healing" space, which holds cherished memories of her time with Derek.

She said: "I have had the most amazing day in the garden. I loved doing the garden when Derek wasn't well because it felt like when I was planting and doing stuff, when we could get him outside he could come and be with me."

Kate confessed: "It's been a bit sad and the weather has been against us, and life has just been so hectic I haven't done it." She then gave fans a glimpse of her progress and added: "What's been lovely is just sort of... being here really."

The mum-of-two reminisced about how much she adored the garden when she first moved into the house with Derek. They bought their family home after "only having a small patio big enough to have a glass of wine on". Kate recently flaunted a gift from her parents as she shared a heartfelt message.

She expressed: "To the people who were there on the 1st birthday - Mum and Dad. You know my garden is my #happyplace but have been feeling overwhelmed recently as it's got so out of control as have just been racing around trying to keep head above water."

"So they surprised me with this wheelbarrow saying that even though our garden isn't big 'it helps when lugging and carrying'. Not everyone's first choice for a prezzie but I couldn't be happier ! ! ! Love you so much mum and dad - you always know the best way to get me out there and going forward. I can't wait to get my hands dirty this weekend and get going! Have a fab one everyone! ! ! # gardening #lovenature #getyourhandsdirty."

Kate was inundated with love and support from her followers, with one sharing: "Enjoy. Gardening is my therapy too! We all need a wheelbarrow."

Another chimed in: "Definitely my happy place. Enjoy whatever you plant/ dig up or just tidy. Xx."

A third person remarked: "We love your mum and dad Kate they definitely know how to get you going with the garden this will do help you mentally and physically! Enjoy Derek would be proud and no doubt will be by your side xx."
