Golden Globes: Angela Bassett and Salma Hayek proof 50+ women ruled the red carpet
Hollywood's older women had quite the sartorial moment at the Golden Globes last night.
While we're usually praising the likes of Zendaya and co for their award show appearances, last night's red carpet belonged to the women who have blown out slightly more candles on their birthday cakes.
Lead by Angela Bassett, 64, Salma Hayek, 56, and Jamie Lee Curtis, 64, the prestigious event totally belonged to the older woman as they snatched their moment to shine on both the red carpet and at the podium.
From glittering peplum dresses, to sheer, sequin-embellished, body-skimming gowns and strapless jumpsuits, the females in the 40, 50 and 60-plus club offered proof their style is only getting better with time.
But as well as making a statement with their fashion rule-flouting choices, those who scooped gongs also seemed to be delivering a similar underlying message in their winning speeches: age is just a number.

While accepting their awards, Bassett (who won Best Supporting Actress - Motion Picture), Michelle Yeoh, 60, (who won Best Actress - Motion Picture - Musical/Comedy) and Jennifer Coolidge, 61, (who won Best Supporting Actress - Television Limited Series/Motion Picture) addressed the significance of their wins coming slightly later in their careers, stressing the importance of chasing your dreams, no matter what your age.
And it wasn't just those taking home gongs who made an impact either.
Awards season 2023 may be only just getting started, but an empowering theme is already seeming to emerge and it’s that the over-50s are by far and away the most stylish stars on the red carpet.
From Heidi Klum to Viola Davis, here's a look at some of the show-stealing looks from last night's older women contingency.

Yeoh opted for a midnight blue sparkling statement gown with an on-trend peplum detail, finishing the glittering look with a diamond choker necklace.
Angela Bassett
