Right now, it feels like the only show anyone is talking about is HBO's The Last of Us, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.
The post-apocalyptic drama is based on the video game of the same name and follows Joel (Pedro Pascal) a smuggler, who is tasked with transporting teenage Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across the US. In 2003, a mass fungal infection caused a global pandemic, but Ellie is immune to the infection and could be the key in creating a vaccine.
Only one episode of the nine of the series has been released so far, and yet we can already tell we're going to be big fans of The Last of Us.
So will the HBO show be getting a second season? This is everything we know so far.
Has The Last of Us season 2 been confirmed?
Right now there hasn't been an official confirmation from HBO The Last of Us will be getting a second season. It's likely HBO will want to see the reception to the show before announcing a renewal.
However, it appears the creators of the show, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have already started planning for a potential season two.
This current first season is expected to cover all of the events of the first video game The Last of Us. Whilst Mazin and Druckmann don't explicitly confirm it, they have hinted that a second season would cover the events of the sequel video game Part II, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
They've also explained that the adaptation of the sequel game would potentially need more than one season, telling Consequence TV: "The amount of story that remains, that we have not covered, would be more than a season of television. So yeah, assuming we can keep going forward, the idea would be to do more than just one more season.”
Wait, so does this mean we'll be getting another two seasons? Fingers crossed.
What would a potential season 2 of The Last of Us be about?
A potential season two of The Last of Us could cover a lot of the events in the sequel game Part II.
The Part II game is set five years after the events of The Last of Us and sees Ellie and Joel settled down in Wyoming. They live amongst a group of survivors, however their peace is soon threatened by a violent event.
There's also the arrival of Abby, a soldier who is part of a militia group based in Seattle, whose story intertwines with Ellie's.
Who would star in a potential season 2 of The Last of Us?
As the show hasn't been confirmed for a second season, no cast members have been confirmed either.
However, we'd expect to see Bella Ramsey reprise the role of Ellie and Pedro Pascal as Joel. Given what we know about who features in The Last of Us: Part II video game, we'd also expect to see Gabriel Luna as Tommy again.
The Last of Us: Part II sees the introduction of a new character Abby, who is played by Laura Bailey in the game. Laura could potentially reprise her role for the TV series or a new actor might be cast in the role.
Is there a release date for The Last of Us season 2?
Right now as a second series of the show has not been confirmed, we don't currently have a release date.
The Last of Us is available to watch in the UK on Sky Atlantic and Now TV.
