Gogglebox’s resident couple Mary Killen and Giles Wood are popular amongst viewers of the hit Channel 4 show thanks to their dry sense of humour, ever since they joined the show in 2015. But when Mary spoke exclusively to OK! in 2022, she admitted that her husband doesn’t make her laugh like he used to. The pair, who have appeared on screens since 2015, have been married for over 30 years and have two adult daughters together. Discussing their relationship, Mary told OK!: “We used to share a sense of humour. When I first met him, he was so funny. I was crying with laughter all day even when he wasn’t there."

“A taxi driver said to me the other day, ‘Your husband makes us laugh,’ I said, ‘He used to make me laugh too!’” She added: “He is still quite funny but when you get to a certain age… We do have a good relationship, but a lot of it is like we’re like two old cats going at each other.” Mary added that she “loves” filming Gogglebox in their quirky Wiltshire cottage. “I love it because I’m just sitting in my own home – it’s a job,” she said. “We get paid a minor sum. It means I don’t have to pack my bag, lose my keys. I just go downstairs and turn on the telly!”

She also admitted that it’s easy to forget that they’re being filmed. “Yes they’re filming for 12 hours a week so of course we forget. The cameras are so small. The point is they want the cast to be as natural as possible. That’s why they film for so long,” she said.

Mary previously revealed how Gogglebox saved their marriage. Speaking to Daily Star, she said: "Giles and I were like ships that pass in the night. I got up early, he went to bed late and we rarely even ate together."

She added at the time: "I know a few couples who have split up because they have decided they can’t stand one another.

"Sitting down and watching television reminded us how much we enjoyed the same jokes." The couple have also addressed the reason why they both have the pet name “nutty”.

“We call each other ‘nutty’ because we both consider the other to be a bit mad,” Mary said. “Certainly, Gils has multiple personality disorder so he’s all sorts of people and one of them is a bit of a genius. The truth is we’re both neurotic.”

Mary and Giles met when they were both 21. Mary was working at the time as a model while Giles was studying at Wimbledon Art College.

Away from the show, former model Mary is a journalist and often writes for The Spectator. She wrote her own book How the Queen Can May You Happy, which was published in 2012. Giles is a reputable artist and contributes to The Oldie.
