Corrie fans are only just realising bad boy Mason star Luca Toolan has very famous dad

Soap actor Luca Toolan made his professional acting debut on Coronation Street at the end of 2023 playing the role of bad boy student Mason Radclyffe who was introduced as part of a storyline tackling the issue of bullying in schools. But Luca is not the only famous member of the Toolan family with his father Mike also well-known across the UK. Mike Toolan is a radio DJ, currently presenting a show on Hits radio every weekday afternoon working alongside the likes of Coronation Street's Brooke Vincent and Hollyoaks' Gemma Atkinson.

As Corrie viewers know, Mason was the leader of the heartbreaking bullying storyline which saw the new character being relentless in his targeting Liam Connor Jnr ever since his arrival on screen. The bullying campaign, which included Mason pulling a knife on a terrified Liam, came to a head as Mason went to the Young Offenders centre. In more recent scenes, Mason has now served his time and fellow young Corrie character Dylan feared for his safety after learning that Mason had been released. Dylan bravely stood up to Mason earlier this year, testifying against him in court. This helped to secure justice as Mason faced his punishment for threatening Liam with a knife.

In new scenes airing tonight at 8:00pm on ITV1, fans will see dark and shocking scenes as Mason is stabbed by his brothers Matty and Logan. While Mason's backstory is currently underexplored, New Corrie boss Kate Brooks is said to be keen to shine a light on the issue of knife crime with Mason at the centre of it.

However away from Corrie, Mason star Luca returns to his family home with his famous dad. It seems many Coronation Street viewers weren't aware of the family connection until recently due to a flurry of comments on social media about their relationship.

Following recent scenes of Mason in court, Luca's dad Mike, who currently co-host Hits Radio's drivetime show, shared a picture of his son as Mason being given his verdict on Instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter, and said: "Guilty! I knew it!"

He then added: "What an episode @coronationstreet Bloody amazing acting all round [clapping emojus]. And Liam’s face in the 2nd pic," to which Luca replied: "Thanks Dad." But Luca's co-star Simon Gregson, aka Steve McDonald, was quick to joke: "I blame the parents here looks wrongun."

When Luca appeared on This Morning back in February, presenter Rochelle Humes also pointed out his famous connection. She said: "I know your dad! Sorry, I didn't know it was that Mike! When we were in [The Saturdays] we used to do radio tours and we always used to see your dad. Sorry, that took me by surprise."

Rochelle hasn't been the only one to be surprised about who Luca's famous dad is as fans online have been rushing to X to comment on the connection. One user shared: "Luca Toolan who plays Mason on Corrie seems a nice lad. So it shows he’s playing him well. I can’t stand Mason but that’s the point though isn’t it. And he has a famous dad northerners will know him DJ Mike toolan key 103 used to do think now it’s called hits radio north west."

While another suspicious fan questioned: "Would Luca Toolan have gotten the Corrie gig if his dad wasn't famous?" Another shared: "He’s Mike Toolan’s son , the radio DJ.. You may not have heard of him, but he looks like his dad.." Then another eagle-eyed fan posted: "I knew it!!! I said to my wife sure thats Mike Toolan ’s son . Well done all great to see!"
