Everything we know about Sally Wainwright's new drama Riot Women
The BBC has unveiled first-look images of Riot Women, a highly-anticipated new drama series created by the brilliant Sally Wainwright.
The writer and director has already given us Happy Valley and Last Tango in Halifax, so it's no wonder we get excited everytime we catch wind of her brand new project.
The new drama focuses on the lives of five women who come together to form a punk rock band and soon realise their music is the perfect platform to express themselves.
Sally Wainwright says: "I'm having a whole new buzz of excitement about the show as we bring it together in the edit, and I can't wait to share it with everyone!"
Here's everything you need to know about the highly anticipated series, including its plot, cast, and release date.
Riot Women: What is it about?
Set and filmed in West Yorkshire, the six-part series follows five women as they decide to form a punk rock band in a bid to compete in a local talent contest.
As they begin to write their first original song, they quickly discover that their music is not just about winning the contest but a way of expressing everything they've been holding inside.
The synopsis of the drama, notes: "As they juggle demanding jobs, grown-up children, complicated parents, husbands who’ve buggered off, and disastrous dates and relationships, the band becomes a catalyst for change in their lives, and it’s going to make them question everything."
The show is "a testament to the power of friendship, music, and the resilience of women who refuse to be silenced by age or expectation. As the story progresses, it’s more than music that binds them; a deeply potent, long-buried secret begins to surface – one that unexpectedly entangles Kitty and Beth, the two unlikely creative masterminds behind the band, in a complex triangle – and threatens to tear everything apart."
