Presenter Eamonn Holmes has opened up about his back operation going ‘wrong’ during his acceptance speech at the TRIC Awards.

Eamonn was spotted at the TRIC Award ceremony, for which OK! are the official media partner, in a wheelchair following his shocking split from Ruth Langsford after 14 years of marriage.

The GB news host has been battling chronic pain for the last few years, a condition he first discussed in 2021 after he was rushed to hospital.

The following year, Eamonn underwent back surgery to fix three slipped discs. After his operation, however, he revealed he could no longer walk properly and sometimes needed a mobility scooter to get around.

Talking to the Mirror on the red carpet of the TRIC Awards (Television and Radio Industries Club), Eamonn confessed he almost didn’t attend. He said: “I wasn’t going to come, but I’ve got this new chair with all these gadgets.”

There was good news for Eamonn during the day when GB News beat the likes of BBC Breakfast, and Good Morning Britain in the News category. Along with the rest of the team, Eamonn appeared on stage where he delivered an emotional speech and opened up about his recent operation.

Taking to the stage with his walker, Eamonn said: “Thank you very much indeed, the quality of the opposition we’re up against says a lot - really all class programs and that makes this a little bit more special for us."

Eamonn continued to say: “I think sometimes we all think we’ve got imposter syndrome, why us? Well, I went for an operation a year and a half ago and it went wrong so I got two things in my back that I didn't want. So I’ll have this happily, accept this, thank you very much indeed.”

Eamonn, who wore a black suit, white shirt and pale blue tie, also posed for a photo with Christine McGuinness, who looked stunning in a white strapless dress. Eamonn also took a photo with ITV and radio presenter Angellica Bell.

This year's TRIC Awards, taking place on Tuesday, 25 June, saw the likes of Mr Bates vs The Post Office beat Happy Valley battle in the Drama category.
