Duke and Duchess of Cambridge meet Radio 1's Teen Heroes of 2018 for tea at the palace
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge invited the three winners of Radio 1’s Teen Heroes of 2018 for tea at Kensington Palace on Wednesday.
16-year-old Siena, works to support students with autism and learning disabilities, while 14-year-old Lily is a wheelchair motocross competitor and advocate. 14-year-old Junior is the third recipient and is a male dancer, who campaigns against bullying.
The trio couldn’t hide their smiles as they met William and Kate at the palace.
The Duchess, who has recently returned to royal duties following the birth of Prince Louis in April, looked chic in a £159 burgundy and white polka dot dress from Whistles, while the Duke donned a navy textured suit.
They were joined at the palace by BBC Radio 1 DJs Clara Amfo and Greg James.
The awards honours the UK’s unsung teenage heroes, as well as the year’s best music, online, sport and entertainment stars.
Siena, Lily and Junior will each be presented with their Teen Hero Award at Radio 1’s Teen Awards on Sunday 21 October at London’s SSE Arena, Wembley, in front of 10,000 people.
Greg James says: “For Radio 1’s Teen Heroes to be invited to Kensington Palace shows how much their selfless work is appreciated, not just in their own communities but by the entire country.
“To be recognised as making a difference to other people’s lives by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will inspire them to carry on the extraordinary work they already do.
“Siena, Lily and Junior had an incredible day speaking to William and Kate about their work and also enjoyed the incredible selection of biscuits that were on offer.”
Clara Amfo added: “Every single one of them brings a unique and more than valid reason to be celebrated amongst their peers for their contributions to their respective communities.”
The ceremony will be hosted by Radio 1 DJs Greg James, Maya Jama and Mollie King and there will be performances by Little Mix, 5 Seconds of Summer and Liam Payne.
Kate and William surprised Radio 1 listeners last year when they appeared on DJ Scott Mills’ afternoon show, to promote their Heads Together campaign, ahead of the 2017 London Marathon.
The couple spoke about their love for music and William revealed he had even anonymously text the show for a shout out.
The Duke and Duchess attended Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s wedding last week, where their eldest children Prince George and Princess Charlotte were pageboy and bridesmaid.
