Duchess of Cambridge wears 13-year-old boots to get down and dirty at farm visit

The Duchess of Cambridge proved she was a natural with animals yesterday afternoon, revealing that she has five chickens at home.

Kate was visiting the Farms for City Children project in Gloucestershire to meet with local primary school children about their experience of farm life in a city.

The Duchess opened up about her Norfolk pets, impressing staff with her knowledge of chickens. “She says she had cleaned out a few chicken sheds in her time. She also told me and the children that she has an incubator of eggs at home at the moment with a hope that they are going to hatch into chicks. Her children are very excited,” stockman Dave Evansoneya commented.

Of course, Kate dressed down for the occasion, donning a £350 parka by Troy London and brown biker jeans from Zara. Underneath, she wore a navy blue J Crew sweater and a gingham shirt by Gap.

On the Duchesses feet were tasselled brown boots by Penelope Chilvers. Kate has been wearing the same pair for 13 years and was first spotted in them at Blenheim Palace in August 2004. Strangely enough, they are still available to buy for £475.

While at the farm, Kate got the chance to feed a lamb and helped the young children do the same. The school kids gifted her with a handmade card and toy bear to give to Princess Charlotte who had celebrated her second birthday on Tuesday.

Teacher Natalie Graham said: “[Kate] told them that they had a little party for Charlotte yesterday and she sung Happy Birthday to herself! It was so sweet. She loved the card and present and said Charlotte would love it too as the card had Peppa Pig on.”
