The Duchess of Cambridge’s penchant for photography is well-known.

Kate’s adorable snapshots of her children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, will forever be burned in our mind. (Especially that first day at nursery picture.)

The royal has broken tradition by shunning actual photographers for official portraits, using her own talents instead. According to experts, there’s a simple reason for this.

Kate wishes to save money. Hiring the likes of Mario Testino comes to a rather costly sum. Professional photographers are also less likely to be able to capture those intimate moments that a family member can.

“It shows how modern Kate and William are by being more accessible and having a hands-on approach,” Gina Jones from baby photography experts Bumpkins told the Daily Mail.

“It also shows that they are resourceful with money as you often see Kate in high street fashion and sometimes repeating outfits and so by taking her own photos, this again shows how she is savvy with money.”

Others believe that Kate could be clamouring for the role of royal photographer; a title that the late Lord Lichfield earned. As a high-profile member of the royal family, the Duchess is “perfectly placed” for such a job.

Kate recently released a cute photo of Princess Charlotte to celebrate her second birthday. Photography experts have already praised her skills, saying she is a natural behind the lens.

The Duchess is also known to carry her Canon camera around on royal tours and while on holiday and has shared several shots from her Borneo trip.

In January, Kate was awarded a lifetime membership to the Royal Photographic Society for her candid work. “The Duchess is a great, positive role model for anyone interested in photography. She has proved her own skills with her portraits of her children, which are not just family snapshots,” a spokesperson for the Society commented.
