The Duchess of Cambridge ditched her mega diamonds for a gala at the Natural History Museum on Thursday night.

Joining Sir David Attenborough to unveil the brand new blue whale skeleton that is replacing the beloved Dippy, Kate debuted a brand new dress by London-based label Preen.

Her powder blue fitted style featured short sleeves and a full midi skirt. Preen’s ‘Everly’ dress retailed for just over £600 but of course, is now sold out thanks to the ‘Kate effect’.

The Duchess accessorised with a pair of plum scalloped sandals by Prada. The sky high shoes cost £550 and are too sold out. A matching purple clutch topped off the effortless ensemble.

Kate’s brand new hairstyle – which has become known as the ‘Middy Cut’ or the ‘kob’ – was styled into perfectly coiffed waves. She showed off her new cut at Wimbledon earlier this month.

During the evening, Kate – who has been a patron of the museum since 2013 – gave a speech, mentioning how she has spent many days with Prince George staring at the dinosaurs.

“Like many of you here tonight, I remember visiting the Natural History Museum as a child, and being inspired with a love of nature,” she began. “And now, as a parent myself, I am experiencing the joy all over again with my own children, who adore coming here. And it is not just to see the T-Rex, mind you.”

The new blue whale skeleton is replacing Dippy the Diplodocus who has lived in the Natural History Museum since 1979.

A petition campaigning against the dinosaur’s removal received over 14,000 signatures.
