Duchess of Cambridge wears Diana's tiara and plunging Marchesa gown at state banquet

For once in her life, the Duchess of Cambridge wasn’t the star of the show.

Attending a state banquet on Wednesday night held in honour of King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain, Kate let the 44-year-old Spanish royal soak up the limelight in a red off-the-shoulder gown.

But the Duchess wasn’t going to let Letizia have all the fashion fun.

The royal style icon grabbed attention in a dusty pink Marchesa gown featuring a rather revealing neckline.

The floor-length dress – which was allegedly custom-made – featured a scalloped lace fabric, a plunging neckline and puffy bell sleeves. Net-a-Porter are selling a similar style.

It was one of Kate’s most fashion-forward (and therefore) risky looks but worked like a dream especially with the addition of some truly eye-catching jewels.

The Duchess paired the Disney princess look with one of Diana’s favourite pieces: the diamond and pearl Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara.

She also wore pearl drop earrings from Diana’s private collection along with a ruby and diamond ‘bandeau’ necklace that once belonged to the Queen Mother.

Kate joined Prince William, the Queen and Prince Philip at the glamorous banquet which was held at Buckingham Palace along with around 170 guests.
