Doctor Who star Karen Gillan shares first pic of newborn daughter and sweet name
Doctor Who star Karen Gillan, who revealed she was pregnant back in September 2024, has announced the arrival of her baby and shared her daughter’s name in an Instagram post. Karen and her husband, American comedian Nick Kocher, have named their daughter Clementine, and shared photos of their bundle of joy.
In one, Nick is holding his daughter and in another, Karen can be seen in hospital giving a thumbs up. She also shared a photo of the two of them, with Nick holding up a mug saying “Best dad ever” on it. Karen soundtracked the post with Bobby Darin’s version of the song Clementine. The post ended with a clip of Karen on the set of a movie, staring at a pregnant woman’s body, which she explained in her caption.
“2024 thank you for giving us Clementine. Also as per the last slide - I shot a film called ‘Let’s Have Kids’ right as I got preggo in real life so take that Daniel Day Lewis,” she joked, referring to actor Daniel Day Lewis’s reputation for being a method actor and spending months immersed in a movie role.

Husband Nick also posted photos of his newborn daughter, including one of Clementine in her mother’s arms in the hospital. He wrote: “VERY excited to introduce you all to Clementine. Everyone in our household is absolutely over the moon she’s here, except for our dog who is actively p***ed.”
Many of their well known friends rushed to send their congratulations. Avengers actor Clark Gregg, Late Night with the Devil star David Dastmalchian, The Serpent and Doctor Who actress Jenna Coleman and comedy director Judd Apatow all sent heart emojis, while Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein wrote: “Ahhhh Congratulations you three.”
Once Upon A Time’s Sean McGuire commented: “Congrats Karen,” while Karen’s Guardians of the Galaxy costars Pom Klementieff and Zoe Saldana also sent heartfelt congratulations.
Inverness-born Karen, 37, is best known for playing Amy Pond in Doctor Who between 2010 and 2013, and she has since gone on to Hollywood success, starring as Nebula in the Guardian of the Galaxy movies as well as the lead role of Ruby alongside Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black and Kevin Hart in the Jumanji movies. She most recently appeared on our screens in the ITV series Douglas Is Cancelled, with Hugh Bonneville.
She and husband Nick have been married since May 2022, when they held their wedding at Castle Toward in Dunoon, Scotland.
