All About December's Rare Black New Moon and What It Means for Your Zodiac Sign

There's no better way to ring in 2025 than by lighting up the night sky with a dazzling display on New Year's Eve — and fortunately, the celebratory festivities will appear extra bright due to this month's final new moon that arrives at 4:26 p.m. CT on Dec. 30.

If this astronomical event gives you déjà vu, it may be because there was already a new moon on Dec. 1, therefore making this particular lunation extremely rare. In fact, it's nicknamed the Black Moon (similar to its two-time-in-one-month full moon counterpart, the Blue Moon).

While new moons are notoriously invisible in the night sky due to their blacked-out appearance (hence its nickname), the lunation will only take place in specific areas of the United States. The Western time zones already had a Black Moon on Nov. 30, so it's now the Central and Eastern timezones' turn.

Although the new moon's appearance will be nonexistent to skygazers, its astronomical significance will electrify the cosmos and impact each of our zodiac signs. Celebrity astrologer Kyle Thomas tells PEOPLE exclusively that the lunation will bring "fresh opportunities and new beginnings" to our lives.

December's final new moon rises in Capricorn, therefore the Earth sign's energy will be infused into the cosmos and have an effect on the themes it rules: society and its structures, ambition, professional goals and authority figures. "Manifest" to make the most of its energy, he says.

While there are many planets influencing this lunation, Thomas points out Saturn, specifically, as it's the planetary ruler of this particular new moon. "Stability, security and a solid foundation will be infused into our lives," he notes. "Our emotions and domestic lives should be faring very well."

Aries (March 21 to April 19)

Prioritize your career, Aries! "The new moon will open a doorway in your life to achieve more in the coming year, as well rise higher in your industry," predicts Thomas.

"Promotions, awards, new job offers or favorable recognition could soon arrive," he says. "Still, it’s most important to use this cosmic energy to take the lead and show the world your power."

Taurus (April 20 to May 20)

Fly high, Taurus! "The new moon will energize you to switch up your routine and take chances," predicts Thomas.

"While you like to stay in your comfort zone most of the time, you’ll feel a surge of momentum to look further into the horizon," he says. "Academic, legal or media pursuits may interest you, or perhaps even travel. Trust what calls to your spirit at this time."

Gemini (May 21 to June 20)

Let your guard down, Gemini! "The new moon is encouraging you to trust others, be vulnerable and open up," says Thomas.

"You could be requiring more assistance from either professional or romantic partners," he puts forth. "Whatever it may be, just know if you speak up and take action for yourself the universe will step in to aid you along the way."

Cancer (June 21 to July 22)

Craving partnership, Cancer? "The new moon will ignite your sense of connection with others," Thomas makes known.

"Commitment may be top of mind prompting you to discuss long-term plans with that special someone. This would be an ideal time for engagement or marriage, but it's advised to hold off until February because Venus is retrograde in your partnership sector," he says.

"While this period could connect you with an ex, the energy may also cause a major promise to fail," Thomas adds. "If single, you could have luck attracting someone with long-term potential."

Leo (July 23 to Aug. 22)

It's time to grind, Leo! "The new moon will activate your sector of productivity," says Thomas.

"This should increase the pace of life for you as you pick up more projects and responsibilities in life and at work," he explains. "If out of work, look for a job in the days following this lunation."

Career aside, put this productive energy towards your physical well-being. Thomas says, "This is an auspicious time to recharge your fitness, diet and health goals for the year to come."

Virgo (Aug. 23 to Sept. 22)

No regrets, Virgo! "The new moon energizes you to have more fun, enjoy recreation and let out your sassy side," says Thomas.

"Romance will be greatly favored as you will certainly be in the mood for love. Single Virgos will have a higher likelihood of finding someone just their type and passion could be sizzling!" he puts forth.

"This may even be an ex, old flame or someone you have previously met — just don’t commit or make any major decisions with Venus Retrograde taking place," Thomas adds. "Creativity and fertility are also greatly favored for you at this time."

Libra (Sept. 23 to Oct. 22)

Remember where you came from, Libra! "The new moon energizes your sector of home, domesticity and family," Thomas makes known.

"You may now be considering a move or wanting to make some sort of transition in your living space. Taking action will be crucial now, as you show the universe how you want your home to be a kingdom," he says.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 to Dec. 21)

Seeing green, Sagittarius? "The new moon will empower you to become a money magnet!" predicts Thomas.

"While a lucrative check, raise, client or job offer could manifest, you will also need to put yourself out there to uncover every possible financial win," he says. "This lunation will help set you’re your financial life for the year to come, so assess your budget and find ways to make your wealth grow."

Capricorn (Dec. 22 to Jan. 19)

Happy birthday, Capricorn! "The most important new moon of the year appears now for you, as it falls in your zodiac sign," says Thomas.

"Use the week that follows this lunation to take action to build the life of your dreams and put yourself out there. Step into your power, trust your inner motivations and seize the day," he puts forth. "You’ll find more luck on your side!"

Aquarius (Jan. 20 to Feb. 18)

Make time for yourself, Aquarius! "Self-love, reflection and a spa day are in order for you," says Thomas.

"The new moon will energize you to rest, recharge and relax, as well as encourage you to brainstorm and visualize what you’d like to manifest in the year to come," he puts forth. "Start working on some goals that you know will take extra time to come to fruition."
