Homes Under The Hammer presenter Martin Roberts has shared with fans that he's not sure how much longer has has left to live as he is struggling with a heart condition. The 61 year old TV star previously revealed he was battling with pericardial effusion and was rushed into surgery that saved his life, where he was just a few hours away from death. Now, speaking to MailOnline, Martin announced that he still gets twinges in his chest that causes him to panic.

Despite Martin's condition, pericardial effusion - which is a build-up of fluid in the structure around the heart and can compress the organ, causing a life-threatening medical emergency - he has refused to slow down.

Although being issued warnings from doctors, he explained that he doesn't 'know how long he has left' and hopes to do as much good in the world as possible.

Martin explained: "The physical side of things took a lot longer than we thought to get around. I still get twinges and every single time I get a twinge in my chest, I panic. As anyone who has had any kind of problems with their heart would attest to it."

"It sends you into a flurry of worry because they only sort of dribble out these stories afterwards. It was like I went to see the the consultant who did the emergency operation, and I said to him, 'so how long would I have survived' He said, "well, you probably wouldn't have made it through the night. So it was just as well I was on duty... you probably had maybe two or three hours to live.

"That was two to three hours from dying and not being here and not seeing the kids anymore and not fulfilling all my ambitions and doing all the things I want to do... I was told I need to slow down and take things easy and all that kind of stuff, and I've gone a completely other way."

This isn't the first time the presenter has spoke about his condition as she underwent the life-saving operation in 2022. At the time, the dad-of-two admitted the scare made him "realise it could all be gone" and how "thing a thread we dangle from". The TV star spoke about the impact it had on him mentally as well as physically.

“I can’t understate the mental after-effects of what happened to me. The physical stuff you get over, but it’s the overriding thought it could have all ended. Everything you tried to do, and your family, you realise it could all be gone," Martin told the publication.

He said he was told to "slow down" but has since "gone the other way". Martin added: "Hopefully I’ve got many years but you never know. That whole thing that happened to me makes you realise how thin a thread we dangle from. But you can’t go through life living in that fear.”
