In a touching message alongside the photos, which David shared to his Instagram account, he wrote, "We say goodbye to the best… Waking up to the sad news of Michael Parkinson passing."

Of course, David had to mention one of the most memorable quotes from his now famous interview with Michael Parkinson, adding, "plus the GoldenBalls moment…"

David also revealed that he and Michael had two common interests which they would discuss together: "I was so lucky to not just be interviewed by Michael but to be able to spend precious time talking about football and family our 2 passions."

David ended the post on a sincere note, saying, "Sending love to Mary and the whole family ❤️."

Michael Parkinson sadly passed away at the age of 88, and many stars have written tributes in his honour, including David Attenborough and Elton John.

Elton shared a black and white photo alongside Michael while recording BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs. Alongside the photo Elton said that "Michael Parkinson was a TV legend who was one of the greats," adding that he "loved his company and his incredible knowledge of cricket and Barnsley Football Club."
