On Saturday, designer Kim Jones made his Dior Homme runway debut during Paris Men’s Fashion Week and what better way to secure the headlines than with a regal touch?

Prince Nikolai of Denmark opened the show, leading a gaggle of suit-clad models through Paris’s Garde Républicaine to the shutter of camera lenses.

But the royal – who is currently seventh in line to the throne – is no stranger to the catwalk. The 18-year-old signed to Denmark-based Scoop Models back in 2017 and most recently walked in Christopher Bailey’s final Burberry show.

And a full-time modelling career may be written in the stars, as his parents – Prince Joachim and Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg – have expressed their support.

His father reportedly told Danish news site, Billedbladet, that the prince “should not be forced into something. Nikolai’s future shall be conducted entirely by his own plan.”

Though he’s not the only royal to have pursued a modelling career, as Princess Diana’s niece, Lady Kitty Spencer, has long reigned the fashion sphere. The 27-year-old was recently crowned the new face of fashion label Bulgari and last year walked the runway on behalf of Dolce and Gabbana.

Jones’ decision to cast Nikolai in his debut Dior show was a sentimental one, as the designer – who has Scandinavian roots – wished to pay tribute to his late mother.

In an Instagram post depicting the royal posing post-show beneath a floral sculpture by American artist KAWS, the former Louis Vuitton designer wrote: “One for my mother who was Danish RIP”.
