Coronation Street legend Helen Worth is rumoured to be lined up for Strictly Come Dancing after leaving the cobbles and her role as Gail Platt for good.

Helen, 73, made a shock announcement to soap fans, that she would be leaving Weatherfield and Gail behind after an incredible five decades on the ITV show.

Now, odds for her to join the BBC celebrity dance show have skyrocketed. BetIdeas are giving the star odds of 8/1 to be in the running to lift the Glitterball trophy.

She’s also been given odds of 10/1 to join the I’m A Celebrity jungle, as Celebrity Big Brother also places on the list.

Her co-star, Colson Smith placed third in the latest series of the Channel 4 show, so she’d have big boots to fill.

Other Corrie stars who have appeared on Strictly include Ellie Leach, who played Faye Windass and Kym Marsh, who played Michelle Connor in the ITV soap for 13 years.

As of yet, Helen has made no announcements on what she plans to do after she shoots her final scenes in Weatherfield.

"This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world,” she said when announcing her exit.

“I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding.

"I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew.”

Helen continued: “The past 50 years have flown by and I don't think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”

She joined the soap in 1974 as Gail Potter, the daughter of Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) and Ted Page (Michael Byrne). Over her years on the famous street, viewers watched her raise her children Nick Tilsley (Ben Price), Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) and David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd).

When the news was announced, devastated Corrie fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter to share their sadness.
