Coleen Rooney reveals secret health battle on I'm A Celeb and vows to ‘never cook rice and beans again’
After spending three weeks in the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle, Coleen Rooney won viewers over thanks to her strength and determination during Bushtucker Trials. But while she may have put on a brave front during the gruesome challenges, Coleen has opened up on the secret health battle that she endured during her time in camp.
During an interview on Good Morning Britain on Monday, 9 December, the I’m A Celeb runner-up told presenters Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley how she’d struggled the most during the first week Down Under and was left questioning why she’d signed up for the show.
“After a few days in I was thinking ‘what have I signed up for? What am I doing here?’,” she said, admitting that she’d been more focused on ensuring that her sons Kai, Clay, Kit and Cass would be ok while she headed to Australia in the days leading up to her jungle stint.

“And then the headaches set in. Obviously withdrawal from caffeine, sugar and alcohol. And then the hunger, we didn’t get stars in the first week. Dean didn't succeed in the some of the trials so we were on limited food and the hunger was real. The first week was a struggle,” she added. “We got used to the rice and beans in the end. I will never cook rice and beans again.”
The candid admission comes after Coleen, 38, finished this year’s I’m A Celeb in second place with 44.79% of the votes. In first place, Danny Jones was crowned King Of The Jungle after scooping 55.21% of the vote, making him the second member of McFly to take home the accolade.
Following her defeat, the mum-of-four remained gracious as she revealed that she never thought she’d make it to the final. “I didn't expect to get this far! Danny truly deserves it, I was happy to share the camp with everyone,” she explained. After years of being known to many as Wayne Rooney’s wife, Coleen even added that it was nice to have “her turn” in the spotlight.
Prior to that, after making it all the way to the final three, Coleen let her guard slip in a rare show of emotion as she opened up about her experience in the Bush Telegraph. “Knowing that I have made it to the final makes me proud,” she said.
“I’m a proud mum, I’m a proud wife, I’m a proud daughter. It’s very rare that I’m proud of myself, so it means a lot. It’s very rare that I put myself first, so yeah these are happy tears!”
