Chef Becomes Instagram Sensation By Sharing Delicious Meals You Can Make For A Pound Or Less

How easy is it to eat well without breaking the bank?

For many of us the choice seems to be between costly, quality ingredients or cheap-and-easy ready meals.

But this chef says there is another way.

Miguel Barclay, from Camden, London, has become an Instagram star after sharing pictures of his delicious-looking meals that you can make for pittance.

Every one of the recipes posted on the cook’s page cost less than £1 to make – which is why he’s called it @onepoundmeals.

Impressively, the meals are made with simple supermarket ingredients.

The recipes – such as those for chicken biryani, shakshuka and chicken ballotine – have seen Barclay quickly gain 60,000 followers.

Each picture contains instructions and ingredients – including where he bought the food from.

Budget supermarket Lidl makes a lot of appearances, but so too does Sainsbury’s and Tesco.

The chef told Yahoo that he stumbled upon the idea.

“In a nutshell, I started making meals for £1 after I became fascinated with stripping back dishes to their core ingredients,” he said.

“Originally I was only concerned with the effects of superfluous ingredients on flavour (for example why do some people put garlic in a chilli con carne?).

“But I then started to become aware of how the prices of my dishes were rapidly decreasing. I became obsessed with that aspect, and One Pound Meals was created.”
