This Celebrity Catchphrase problem proved very tricky
The nation was gripped last night (January 6) by a truly tense piece of television – as Jimmy Carr, Ellie Simmonds and Fay Ripley battled it out on Celebrity Catchphrase.
It's a simple enough concept – the contestants are shown animated clues to common phrases and you say what you see, you know the drill – but everyone knows the frustration of not spotting something that's right in front of them.
And yesterday, Fay and Ellie in particular experienced that first hand and on national TV as a clue intending to lead to the answer 'Pirate DVDs' got everyone in a bit of a mess.

Jimmy Carr was first to buzz in on the catchphrase, giving the answer 'pirate videos' (because apparently Jimmy hasn't moved on from 1998) before quickly correcting himself to 'pirate DVDs'.
Of course, it's a popular Catchphrase rule that only your first answer can be accepted, so Jimmy was left with no extra money in the pot and the knowledge that he's just given Ellie and Fay the answer.
So, his fellow contestants quickly buzzed in to bag some money then, right?
Wrong. Ellie buzzed in first, plumping for 'pirate CDs', followed by Fay, who chose 'pirate movies'.
'There are millions of people at home screaming,' Stephen Mulhern pointed out as the celebrities continued to look confused, and he wasn't wrong either:
