How Carolina Panthers' Christian McCaffrey Fuels His Body on Training Days
In April 2020, Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey signed a four-year contract extension with the NFL, worth an estimated $64 million—which means everything the 5'11 NFL player puts into his body has to count, now more than ever.
McCaffrey recently spoke with Men's Health to share the secrets to his training day diet. Most weeks, the running back—perhaps best known outside of the NFL for his bulging biceps—begins his days with a light-ish breakfast: turkey sausage or bacon with avocado and a smoothie made with Bodyarmor, the sports drink he endorses (other ingredients: ice, mixed berries, spinach, and collagen protein).
For lunch, he opts for a "big" salad with almonds, turkey, or salmon. "I try to drink a gallon of water each day," he said. Makes sense given his workout routine. (During off seasons, it's five days a week, with three days of "intensive" training, one "football-specific" workout, and one recovery day.)
For dinner, it's usually a meat like bison or a fish like a branzino, alongside some rice and veggies. Yes, he "indulges." "I do a little almond butter sandwich or some almond butter on toast," he said. "I try to get some good EFAs in there, essential fat acids."
We guess that's why he's worth $64 million.
