Why Cara Delevingne really shaved her head
Cara Delevingne has revealed that playing a cancer patient in her upcoming film wasn’t the only reason behind her platinum buzzcut.
The model-turned-actress debuted her new shorn style back in April amidst the filming of new drama, ‘Life in a Year.’
Her role as a cancer sufferer appeared to have been the reason behind the dramatic change in appearance but the 24-year-old has now said otherwise.
Cara told WWD that she wanted to challenge the idea of traditional beauty through her new haircut.
“Just doing it really was liberating,” she said. “The kind of power and not needing hair to be beautiful, and that was the message I really thought I needed to spread.”
The hairstyle has also allowed the star to be more playful with her fashion choices: “There’s a lot of different things I get to wear. I’m preferring more to wear dresses and such, because I get to look at my femininity in a different way. The fact that there’s no upkeep, that’s my favourite part about it.”
Cara revealed that her favourite designers haven’t changed though, adding that “I’m always going to be a massive fan of Karl [Lagerfeld] and Chanel.”
The star said she is now getting into designers like Dior and Thierry Mugler and returning to old favourites such as Saint Laurent.
Feminism is clearly on the Brit’s mind as she mentioned her new focus was to empower women.
“Probably the thing I’m most passionate about at the moment is being an inspiration for young girls and the youth of today, because that is the most important thing,” she commented. “And whether it’s by doing a film or working with charities or doing certain docu-series, what I’m trying to do is spread positive messages.”
Cara followed in the footsteps of fellow actress Kristen Stewart who has been rocking a buzzcut since March. Katy Perry too took to the clippers, debuting a blonde pixie style.
