I'm a lip balm aficionado, here's why Boots' viral £2.50 gloss is my new favourite
I've tried over 50 lip balms in my time and this budget-friendly buy rivals Summer Fridays and Laneige.
As a beauty journalist, it's my job to test products and filter through the hundreds of new launches every year to find out what's worth a spot in your routine. Lip balms are one of my favourite types of products to try, as you can form an opinion on them almost immediately, and I knew as soon as I applied the brand-new Boots Glossy Lip Balms that I was hooked.
I like to think of myself as a lip balm aficionado. I've tried upwards of 50, from cheap and cheerful pots of Vaseline to luxury balms in glass jars, I keep a tube in every bag I own and won't leave my house without one on hand. Plus, I'm not the only one who is a fan, since launching earlier this month, sales have skyrocketed with one lip balm flying off the shelves every 30 seconds.
Costing just £2.50, these new glossy lip balms are part of Boots' affordable in-house skincare line and rival luxury lip products I've been using for years, such as the Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm (£23) and Laneige's Lip Glowy Balm (£17.50).

This affordable lip balm is less than a fiver. I've used it everyday since buying it a month ago.
Since picking up a tube in my local Boots a month ago, I've already bought a second one and have been using them everyday. Here's why I love them and highly recommend adding one to your basket while you still can.
💸 Reasons to buy
Firstly, you can't fault the £2.50 price tag, it's such a bargain, I've already bought two more and one that I gave to a friend.
There's three flavours; mint, cherry and coconut, but in my local Boots I was only available to get hold of cherry and mint.
Cherry is my favourite, it has a very subtle fruity scent that doesn't overpower, a slimline tube that fits in all my handbags, and it squeezes out easily without making a mess. Best of all, it has a very slight tint, which adds a gentle wash of colour to liven up your lips. I think this is why it costs slightly more than the others, as it retails for £3 instead of £2.50.
It's not sticky, and after half an hour melts into skin to leave lips soft, smooth and free from any dryness. I honestly cannot fault it, it has become one of my top budget buys.
It's a basic lip balm that ticks every box for me, it has sleek packaging that doesn't become a greasy mess, adds a touch of colour, smells fresh and keeps my lips hydrated - all for considerably less than a fiver.
The mint flavour is completely clear, so if you prefer a simple high-shine, hydrating gloss, it's a great option. I like to bring it with me when I go for runs, as my lips inevitably feel dry when it's windy and I can easily top it up while moving.
✋ Reasons to avoid
I honestly love these lip balms and think they're worth every penny. However, if you don't like a glossy finish, this is the only reason I would advise steering clear, as they have the finish of a typical lip gloss, just without the stickiness.
