Here are the best countries for women to live in
A new study has revealed the best (and worst) countries to live in as a woman, and the United Kingdom hasn't even made it into the top 10. Sitting in first place, in fact, is Norway.
The 2019 Women's Liveability Index, compiled by Nestpick, analysed over a 100 countries, looking at various factors that affect the everyday lives of women. These factors included domestic violence rates, the gender pay gap, and period poverty, as well as female life expectancy on the whole.
Taking all of these elements into account, the study concluded that Norway is the best country for women to live in, thanks to its high standard of living and strong equality legislation. It also has a gender pay gap of 7.1 percent, which, compared to our 17.9 percent, is pretty good.
Nestpick's Managing Director, Ömer Kücükdere, said: 'With more and more women moving abroad than ever before, we wanted to create a resource that would help women to better understand the potential quality of life in different countries around the world.'
The U.K. came in 19th place on the list, below many of our European neighbours such as Spain, France and Denmark. On the other end of the scale, the study found that Nigeria was the worst country to live in as a woman, closely followed by Ethiopia and Pakistan.
