Baby Reindeer took the TV world by storm this year. Scots comedian Richard Gadd's Netflix show had the nation glued to their screens as he detailed his stalking ordeal at the hands of 'Martha', played by Jessica Gunning.

The dark comedy sparked huge controversy, with the Record unveiling the real-life Martha as Fiona Harvey, who refuted several of the storylines in the show - which opened its first episode with the words: This is a true story.

Ms Harvey recently announced plans to sue Gadd and Netflix for the use of her backstory, after a US judge ruled that the gripping series was not a true story. But creator Gadd has still been able to revel in his show's success.

Baby Reindeer scooped four Emmys during awards season and led to Gadd, 35, securing a multi-year scripted series deal with the streaming giant. The show was on everyone's lips this year and, thanks to the expected legal battle, it is likely still to be the talk of the town for a good while.

And it looks like many of us could be chatting about it on Christmas Day, after the show was featured in a list of the top Christmas cracker jokes for this festive season.

Comedy channel U&Gold (formerly UKTV Gold) announced the results of its annual joke competition, with Oasis, Gareth Southgate, and some Labour policies joining Baby Reindeer on the list.

U&Gold challenged Brits to post their cleverest quips online, with the channel then picking their favourite festive funnies and putting them to an anonymous vote from 2,000 members of the public.

Comedy critic Bruce Dessau, who led the U&Gold judging panel, said: “Another brilliant list from the public – a true testament to British wit! After an eventful 2024, I’m glad to see the nation’s humour bringing a bit of light to some of the year’s headlines! Big congratulations to all the winners, and well done to everyone who entered and put a smile on our faces for a twelfth year."

Gerald Casey, Director of Programme, Comedy and Entertainment, UKTV added: "We’re blown away year after year by the hilarious entries we receive and we love seeing the British public get involved to share the laughs. We hope to spread even more Christmas cheer with our festive U&Gold Christmas programming, including much-loved classic episodes from the likes of The Royle Family and Only Fools and Horses.”
