Almost 20 years after the debut of her album Autobiography, Ashlee Simpson Ross is proving that she still can do it all.

The singer and mom of three, 39, spoke with PEOPLE ahead of the big anniversary, reflecting on all the changes that have happened in her life since she entered the music scene. In tandem with the celebration, Simpson Ross is partnering with Dairy Queen, who is opening the DQ Freezer to bring back some iconic sweet treats.

"For me, 2004 and bringing that back is so much fun, and I love reflecting on that time," Simpson Ross tells PEOPLE. "And I can't believe it's been 20 years, and 20 years since I released Autobiography."

For Simpson Ross, Dairy Queen is nostalgic of her time on tour, where she would often stop and treat herself to her favorite — a Brownie Battered Blizzard. "Honestly, going back and having that, I was like, 'It brings me back!'" she says.

Of course, some things look a little different than they did in 2004. For starters, Simpson Ross is now mom to three kids — son Bronx, 15, whom she shares with ex Pete Wentz, and her two kids Jagger, 8, and Ziggy, 3, whom she shares with husband Evan Ross. She notes that her kids are all big fans of Dairy Queen as well.

"The Frosted Animal Cookie one is my little one's favorite," Simpson Ross says of Ziggy. "Jagger likes the Brownie with me as well, but there's all different flavors. And for me, when I was younger, I used to go with my family as well. It's definitely an amazing throwback that I'm here for."

With three kids in several different age brackets, Simpson Ross has her hands full as she has learned to adjust her parenting style to meet her little ones' needs. Luckily, she's been able to rely on past experience to help her smaller kids.

"I have every different age. Every time I can be like, 'I've been there, we've been there. Now it's my 3-year-old,'" Simpson Ross shares. "But it's amazing. Everyone is their own individual self and has their own personality and it's really nice."

"Everyone's going through something different. My oldest son's going to be 16, my daughter is 8. She's all into the music and my old music, Olivia Rodrigo, all the things. And then my 3-year-old's in there dancing and being hilarious and entertaining himself. It really actually works out. It's a nice balance."

Although he has two little siblings running around his house, Bronx is still choosing to hang out at Simpson's house — which the proud mom loves.

"He definitely hangs out here with his friends and everyone. So I feel like I have the cool house," she shares. "And he goes out a bit, but not all the time. He likes to come home. He likes to hang out with me. Thank god."

Adding that her son is "so cool," Simpson Ross says he's been making her playlists filled with new music for her to try. "I'm like, 'What am I listening to? Give me something cool,' " she jokes.

"He makes the best playlists," Simpson Ross continues, adding that he isn't interested in her music yet. "He does piano, guitar and he's so cool. And then Ziggy of course likes music and dancing and I mean, who knows? He loves it."

Of course, parenthood doesn't come without its challenges. Simpson Ross says she's constantly having teachable moments with her kids, which include "not putting slime on the couch."

"Oh my God. Not making slime inside. It's a teachable one for myself too," she laughs.
