This $6.8 Million New Jersey Mansion Had a Cameo on ‘The Sopranos’

“We all got different needs,” Tony Soprano remarks in the pilot of HBO’s award-winning series The Sopranos. Ten episodes later, the psychological drama based around the DiMeo crime family in New Jersey takes viewers inside a sprawling mansion that was made over into a brothel for episode 11. The Gilded Age abode with Hollywood credentials can now be yours for $6.75 million. Tony Verducci and Cristian Perez of Serhant hold the listing.

Named Daybreak for its sunrise views of New York City, the stately Georgian Colonial mansion on South Mountain Avenue dates to 1912, when it was built for a local woman, Kate A. Bennett, replacing another house that stood on the property. A four-car carriage house was reportedly added in the late 1920s by a subsequent owner.

The living room features one of the home’s eight fireplaces.

The current owners acquired Daybreak in 2013 and then carried out an eight-year-long restoration and update. Aside from maintaining original architectural details like tiger oak floors and Corinthian pilasters in the foyer, a sleek new kitchen and an indoor pool were added to the main house, which sits atop nearly 1.5 manicured acres with eight bedrooms and as many bathrooms in about 13,000 square feet.

Beyond the steel-, concrete-, and brick-built residence is a large foyer with a grand staircase, a spacious formal living room, and a separate dining room. Sub-Zero and Bosch appliances line the custom SieMatic kitchen, which is complemented by the original (and restored) butler’s pantry. Other highlights on the main level include a solarium, an office, and the 40’ x 20’ indoor mineral pool and spa, which has its own kitchen and dining areas. A summer kitchen sits on an expansive nearby patio.

Back inside, the landing atop the main staircase is large enough to accommodate a baby grand piano. Five guest and family bedrooms share the upper floor with the primary suite, which features gleaming wood floors and a fireplace. The light-filled primary bathroom, “a former garden porch,” the listing notes, features tiled walls and a soaking tub for two.

A large entertainment room crowns the mansion, alongside two additional bedrooms, while the lower level remains unfinished, granting numerous options for customization. And finally, the detached carriage house sits behind the house with four mahogany-doored bays and an electric charger. In addition to a guest or staff apartment with a full kitchen and a bathroom, the structure includes a greenhouse.
