Greige Is No Longer the Most Popular Kitchen Cabinet Color — Here’s What Is

For a while now, “greige” has been considered the perfect compromise color, especially in home design: It’s kind of gray and kind of beige, so it breezed through the cool-toned 2010s and warm-toned 2020s with its ambiguity. After the chokehold that white and gray cabinets had on the design world eased, greige leapt from walls onto kitchen cabinets. But now, Hannah Goldberg, founder of Hannah Charlotte Interiors, insists, “the greige kitchen cabinets that have reigned supreme since 2023 are evolving as people lean further into the warmth.” So, what’s taking its place?

Designers say people want to feel cozy in their homes now more than ever, which is why they predict that these five palettes are taking over as the most popular kitchen cabinet colors in 2025:

1. Warm Neutrals

It’s not that neutrals are going away — they’re always going to be in. According to Goldberg, people are embracing more and more warmth for their kitchen cabinets. “Cashmere beiges ooze coziness, and we’re starting to see creams that truly lean into yellow territory in abundance,” she explains. Christine Vroom, founder and principal designer at her namesake design firm, likes to recommend Shiitake by Sherwin Williams, a warm stone gray, to her clients.

2. Historic Hues

Bringing colors from the past into the current day sounds lovely, but what does it actually mean? Vroom says to “think about colors that aren’t completely clear,” like Cinnamon Slate by Benjamin Moore, Treron by Farrow & Ball, and Ashwood Moss by Benjamin Moore. These nuanced shades have personalities that pair well with classic metals like unlacquered brass and polished nickel. You can choose to go all-in on the antiqued look with thrifted oil paintings and wood cutting boards, or modernize the look with clean lines and trend-forward details.

3. Stained Cabinetry

For a long time, everyone was eager to paint over their wood cabinets. Now, they’re stripping it all away and going au naturel for a more high-end look. Vroom says that the wood tones and even species are “richer, chocolatey, and moodier — think darker stained oaks and rich walnuts.” Wood is warm, cozy, and stain-camouflaging, so embracing it also means getting to enjoy the organic grain that makes it so beautiful in the first place.

4. Sage Green

This shade has been taking over homes everywhere, and for good reason — it’s versatile, nature-inspired, and provides just a hint of color. Kyle Dutton, founder of his namesake residential construction and home styling firm, recommends Sherwin Williams’ Liveable Green: “It’s neutral but adds warmth and depth,” he explains. “It also pairs beautifully with stained cabinets and looks stunning alongside white marble or taupe stone countertops.”

5. Moody Hues

Those looking for a bold cabinet color are now shifting away from vibrant options and leaning into moody ones. They’re not just green, which remains an extremely popular choice in recent years. “Dark blues and oxblood reds are definitely inspiring people,” says Heather Chadwick, senior designer at O’Hara Interiors. Because they’re deeper shades, they feel closer to the neutral side while still providing a pop of color.
