4 colours that will be everywhere in interiors this year
If you’re ready to refresh your surroundings, you’re in luck — this year’s biggest colours promise warmth, elegance, and a deep connection to nature, according to design experts.
From cosy browns to vibrant reds, the key to 2025’s colour story is embracing individuality and inviting a touch of boldness into your living spaces.
To help you get started, the design team at The Residence Collection shares their expert insights on the top four shades for the year ahead – and how you can incorporate them into your home.
1. Beautiful Burgundy
“Burgundy, having taken the fashion and beauty world by storm at the end of 2024, is set to dominate interiors in 2025," Jo Trotman, from The Residence Collection, tells Country Living.
"It's a rich, warm, and versatile colour that adds elegance and cosiness to living spaces. While darker shades can sometimes feel overpowering, burgundy brings warmth without being overwhelming, making it perfect for both winter and summer."
"The depth of the colour balances beautifully with natural light, creating a comfortable atmosphere throughout the year."
Whether you use burgundy to frame your windows, paint a feature wall, or add plush velvet cushions, this colour exudes sophistication. Pair it with neutral tones like cream, taupe or even pink, for a timeless look, or combine it with metallic accents for a contemporary edge, suggest the team.
2. Serene Greens
“Green has always been a favourite for those looking for ways to bring the beauty of nature indoors, and now, in 2025, we're seeing a rise in ‘textured green’," Jo adds.
"Shades like sage, olive, and forest green have been popular for a long time, but the trend is shifting towards a more textural approach — adding interest and intrigue with patterned wallpapers, natural materials, and curated artwork. This approach injects a maximalist personality with minimal effort, adding a focal point to any room without being too overpowering.”
Sleek greens — whether on a feature wall adorned with botanical wallpaper, soft green furniture, or ceramic accessories — bring a sense of calm and rejuvenation to any room. Complement the look with natural wood finishes and indoor plants for a harmonious, earthy look to your decor.
3. Chocolate Brown
Jo highlights that Pantone’s Colour of the Year, Mocha Mousse, will lead the charge in the resurgence of brown tones, adding: "Pantone’s 2025 Colour of the Year, Mocha Mousse, is a rich, comforting brown that reflects our desire for warmth and connection to nature.
"As brown and beige tones replace grey as the new neutrals, Mocha Mousse is ideal for creating a cosy, grounded feel in dining and living areas. It's a fantastic way to bring the calm and tranquillity of nature inside, with its earthy, nurturing hue perfect for furniture, soft furnishings, and painted walls.”
Use chocolate brown to create intimate spaces, such as a snug living room or a cosy reading nook. Pair it with creams and warm ochres to enhance its comforting charm, or contrast it with bold colours like teal or burgundy for a striking look.
4. Cherry Reds
Finally, Jo shares what she thinks will be one the boldest of the year’s trends.
She adds: "Cherry Red is set to be a key colour for 2025, with searches for ‘cherry bedroom’ already rising significantly. Red is always bold, so choosing the right shade is important. When selecting cherry red, you’re set to offer a rich, romantic tone perfect for bedrooms, dining areas, or any space where you want to create an intimate, inviting atmosphere. Using it in soft furnishings or window treatments allows you to introduce this powerful colour without it feeling overwhelming.”
Cherry red is perfect for statement furniture, luxurious curtains, or accent pieces like rugs and cushions. Pair it with muted pinks or soft greys to soften its intensity, ensuring it adds energy without overpowering the space.
“Overall, I see people embracing warmer tones and a deeper connection to nature in their homes, moving away from existing colour trends and trialling new ones as we enter this new year,” Jo continues. “More homeowners are taking bolder steps away from traditional neutrals, opting for colours that reflect their personality and create a distinctive, eclectic style.”
