3 tips for applying makeup on public transport – from a top makeup artist
If you're one of the 43% of female commuters across the nation that applies makeup on the move as part of their daily routine, you'll know it's not always always smooth sailing – or blending.
New research from No7 has found that as mornings become increasingly hectic with many of us back in the office more often, many women are swapping their dressing table for train seats, car mirrors, and even bus stops to save precious time. And yet 88% of women who apply makeup on the move experience mishaps in transit, with 52% having experienced a poke in the eye, and many smudging their lipstick or making themselves look too orange.
While there is always a case for carving out extra time for yourself in the morning or embracing a makeup-free look, there are days when perfecting your winged liner on the train or contouring in the backseat of a car becomes a non-negotiable part of your routine.
So with that in mind, Nic Chapman, No7’s Makeup Artist Ambassador, shares her tried and tested tips for applying makeup on the move.
1/ Make the most of the light
Turn your head towards the light source when doing your makeup so that it is aimed directly at your face, giving you the best possible chance at applying your makeup evenly and avoiding being baked in blush. You can also get a mirror with a light attached to it for those early mornings or late night make up needs.

2/ Stick to cream-based products
'Unless it's pressed, avoid loose powders – the last thing you need is your powder spilling everywhere as you go over a speed bump! Cream formulas are so much easier for on-the-go application as you can blend out with your fingers and is easier to make look more natural.'

3/ Go big with mascara and lipstick
'These are the easiest bits to apply on the go and you can layer away knowing that you can’t go too wrong! If you want enhanced but natural looking lashes, I'd recommend the No7 Pro Artist That’s a Wrap Tubing Mascara.
'A lipstick is easy to apply without a mirror so always handy to have in your bag!' Nic advocates one that combines the best of both a lipstick and a gloss and they're easy to apply.
