Pharrell Williams Just Dropped More Jewelry for Tiffany & Co.

Few celebrities can tread back and forth between the masculine and the feminine so convincingly as Pharrell Williams. Earlier this week, the multi-hyphenate creator was spotted at the Sacai menswear show in Paris rocking a woman’s Louis Vuitton handbag, which he paired with a Carhart workman’s puffer jacket and a baseball cap. Few men could pull it off, and yet, Williams manages to design pieces for both Louis Vuitton and Tiffany & Co. that seem to translate across the board. Take, for instance, his Tiffany Titan by Pharrell Williams collection for the revered jewelry house. First launched in May of last year, the collection was inspired by Poseidon’s trident from Greek mythology (a nod to Atlantis, the name of the Virginia Beach area where the artist was raised) and featured a mix of gold, titanium, and diamonds in chains accented with spikes. The second series of Titan Tiffan by Pharrell Williams, which debuted in September, was mainly centered around white pearls, and now, the third series is all about Tahitian pearls.

It’s safe to say LVMH is betting heavily on Williams’s creativity, and it must be paying off. Tiffany & Co. is clearly making Tiffany Titan an established collection as it continues to roll out new pieces. One would assume that indicates it’s selling well. Discussing the continuation of the series, Williams tells Robb Report, “I was interested in the duality between freshwater pearls and Tahitian pearls. They work hand in hand, like day and night, yin and yang. There’s this levity and ethereal quality to the freshwater pearl styles that balances perfectly with the depth of color in the Tahitian pearl styles.” The pearls in the collection are gray in a range of green to purple overtones and are sized over 11 mm, sourced from French Polynesia. They are cultivated over 18 months and are selected by hand for optimal nacre thickness and exceptional luster. Each necklace, earrings, ring, and bracelet is set in 18-karat rose gold.

Not satisfied to stop at expressions of design, Williams and Tiffany also unveiled a new prongless diamond setting dubbed the Titan Setting. It’s executed in simple everyday pieces like a necklace with a single solitaire, a solitaire ring, or a set of stud earrings with removable jackets executed in the Titan spear motif. All are set using a Floeting platform—a patented and trademarked design created by Ian and Christine Douglas and Chris Benham—which elevates the diamond above a setting without prongs or bezels.

The process of creating the suspension involves the diamond being secured via a laser-cut micro-groove around the diamond’s underside. Artisans then cut additional facets below the stone’s pavilion so there’s no visible metal when looking at the piece straight on or from the top. Each stone is measured and matched with a basket that has been cut for diameter and depth at micron levels to ensure the perfect fit. The result is that the diamonds appear to float, which Williams says also ties into his Poseidon inspiration and the character’s ties to the sea.
