1800 Tequila Just Dropped a New Decanter Shaped Like a Basketball Shoe

The worlds of sneakerhead culture, sports, art, and tequila have finally collided, and the result is one of the most unique looking liquor decanters out there. 1800 Tequila and floral artist Mr. Flower Fantastic collaborated on a new decanter shaped like a basketball sneaker—perfect timing, considering that the NBA All-Star Weekend takes place this weekend in San Francisco.

1800 is a tequila brand that is part of the Jose Cuervo family—it is owned by the Beckmann family which operates Becle and Proximo Spirits, the company that controls Cuervo and other brands like Kevin Hart’s Gran Coramino tequila. The core lineup consists of a blanco and a range of aged expressions, including Milenio which spends time in Cogac casks and an anejo Cristalino that has been filtered to remove color (this is the tequila that is in this new bottle). For those that are interested—a diffuser is used at the Cuervo distillery for certain products (a modern piece of machinery used to extract sugar from agave using high-pressure water and chemicals instead of more traditional methods), and additives certainly play a part in various expressions under different names.

New York-based artist Mr. Flower Fantastic is no stranger to the sneaker world, having collaborated with brands like Nike before. This new decanter, according to the artist, was not only inspired by kicks, but also by the geometric design of 1800’s bottles and the natural shape of agave plants. “The decanter itself began with an exploration of light, inspired by the refracted angles of the crystal bottle,” said Mr. Flower Fantastic said in a statement. “The design also honors the agave plant’s striking, geometric beauty, reflecting nature’s precision in every curve. Beyond its aesthetic, the decanter is a conversation starter as art often sparks dialogue.”

The new collab will launch this weekend at the 1800 Cristalino Court installation during All-Star Weekend, an invite-only event where guests will be able to check out the art, the new decanter, and sip on some 1800 Cristalino margaritas. Mr. Flower Fantastic x 1800 tequila Sneaker Decanter officially launches on February 18 (SRP $225), and will be available exclusively via a microsite that will go live tomorrow (we will update this story with the website when it does). That price includes the decanter and a bottle of 1800 Cristalino that fits inside of it. In the meantime, you can find other 1800 expressions available to purchase at websites like ReserveBar.
