BBC The One Show's Alex Jones issues apology to viewers as Vernon Kay forced to step in

Alex Jones suffered a wardrobe malfunction just minutes into the latest live edition of The One Show.

The Welsh presenter was back on the famous green sofa on Wednesday (February 12) evening alongside co-star Vernon Kay.

The pair welcomed Britain's Got Talent hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly and Mickey 17 stars Naomi Ackie and Toni Collette to the studio but things didn't got off to a tricky start.

Just after the opening credits rolled, Alex and Vernon informed viewers what was coming up on the show but got interrupted as Alex's earring dropped to the studio floor.

Alex told fans watching at home: "My earring just fell out, sorry" and Vernon quickly got up from his seat to fetch the jewellery for his co-presenter.

The pair carried on the professionals and passed over to Watchdog host Matt Allwight who gave an update on the latest headlines.

Things descended into further chaos later on in the show as actress Toni went on to show off her impression of a toaster to Ant and Dec.

Before showing off her own talent, Toni said: "S**t I can't believe I'm doing this." which led Vernon and Alex to apologise for her "potty mouth". Toni later repeated the same bad word, leaving Ant, Dec and Naomi in stitches.

Toni blamed "jet leg" and viewers at home were left in hysterics. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan penned: "Toni Collette swearing twice." Another added: "Toni Collette! 2 s**ts in a minute." A third said: "Toni Collette sweating on the BBC? You’re terrible, Muriel!"

It comes after Little Britain's David Walliams left Alex speechess during Tuesday's show after he made a joke about Prime Minister Keir Starmer live on air.

The TV star said: "I was at school with Keir Starmer, yeah. And he gave me a detention and it was Christmas time and it was really cold and he turned off the heating." After hearing the quip, host Alex appeared rather stunned and wasn't sure what to say next.

Giggling, David added: "I did go to the same school as Keir Starmer, but actually, we didn't meet each other." After a brief silence, David mentioned another famous face and said: "And Fatboy Slim was there too. Yeah, he was yeah!

"He was doing the DJing and Keir was being the Prime Minister, I was acting the giddy goat!" Trying to move on swiftly, Alex then turned the conversation to another topic.

The One Show airs weeknights on BBC One at 7pm
