Zoë Kravitz replies to critic calling her Met Gala look "practically naked"
Zoë Kravitz has responded to a commenter on social media who was disparaging about her Met Gala style.
The actress looked breathtaking in a skin-baring Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello slip dress which she teamed with sparkling Jessica McCormack diamonds at the fashion event, receiving praise and compliments from fans and fashion critics everywhere.
However, one social media user negatively commented: "I don't understand why they go practically naked. "She's gorgeous. Why does she feel the need to wear a dress like this?"
The Big Little Lies star advocated body positivity by replying (as captured by Comments by Celebs): "Being uncomfortable with the human body is colonisation / brainwashing."
She added: "It's just a body. We all got em."
The Met Gala featured A-listers celebrating the theme In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, which will be followed by In America: An Anthology of Fashion in May next year.
Stars on the red carpet included Kendall Jenner, wearing a similarly barely-there dress which was a custom Givenchy couture design, model Paloma Elesser in Zac Posen, Lupita Nyong'o in a denim Versace ballgown and Rihanna in Balenciaga.
Kravitz was joined by rumoured boyfriend Channing Tatum, who looked dapper in a classic black tuxedo designed by Donatella Versace with patent shoes.
Tatum stars in Kravitz's upcoming directorial debut Pussy Island, with the actress recently revealing that she had Tatum in mind for the role when she was writing the character.
"Chan was my first choice [for the male lead role of a tech billionaire], the one I thought of when I wrote this character,” Kravitz told Deadline. "I just knew from Magic Mike and his live shows, I got the sense he’s a true feminist and I wanted to collaborate with someone who was clearly interested in exploring this subject matter.”
The actor was equally as complimentary about Kravitz in the same interview, saying: "When Zoë called me about this, I was shocked. I didn’t know her. I’d watched her in movies, knew she produced High Fidelity and had seen that, but I didn’t know she was creating on a level like this, where she wanted to direct.
"This came out of nowhere and the subject matter made me say, wait, why are you thinking about me for this? No one gives me a chance to play a role like this, everybody throws me down a different alley and expects me to do a certain thing."
The film - written by Kravitz and E.T. Feigenbaum - follows the story of clever cocktail waitress, Frida, who is living in Los Angeles and has eyes for tech billionaire Slater King (played by Tatum). Frida makes her way into King’s impressive inner circle and finds herself at an intimate private island party, where there’s something terrifying going on behind the scenes.
Pussy Island will be released next year.
