What was up with the creepy bug beauty at the Gareth Pugh London Fashion Week show?

Gareth Pugh’s shows are always a dark affair. For AW17, the somewhat macabre designer was inspired by controversial Nazi film, The Night Porter.

An all-black collection was sent out with leather trenches and fur-necked coats dominating. Flared PVC trousers continually appeared along with nicely tailored trousers and braces.

But it was the make-up that caused the most commotion. Conjured up by beauty maestro Val Garland, models including Erin O’Connor debuted shiny black bug eyes to fit with the theme of “staying awake to stay woke.”

Models were fitted with plastic shapes to give an insect feel to the creep look. Super long lashes fluttered across shiny faces, adding an extra animalistic feel to the political collection.

Matte blue lips were painted on a number of models while hair was set in wet-looking finger waves.

Dark green and black eyeshadow also appeared, further dramatising the scary eye look. It was a horror-like experience but what an impact.
