New figures have recently confirmed something that many of us - unfortunately - could have guessed already; that more than half of women say they have been sexually harassed at work.

Working in collaboration with the Everyday Sexism Project, the TUC’s survey of 1,500 women found that one third of women had been subjected to unwelcome jokes at the workplace, while a quarter experienced unwanted touching.

And now, things are getting personal, as women are taking to Twitter to share their experiences of harassment at work.

Women from all industries have contributed to the hashtag, recounting everything from offhand comments to physical intimidation.

Many unwanted acts described were apparently carried out by bosses and those senior to the woman describing the event, which matches the TUC’s figures; nearly one in five women (17%) said it was their line manager or someone with direct authority over them that carried out the harassment.

Many recollections are of being harassed while young in the workplace, which is also reflective of the numbers - two thirds (63%) of women aged between 18 and 24 surveyed said they had been sexually harassed at work - a much higher proportion.

Similarly, in nine out of 10 cases, the perpetrator was male.
