“It was just so humiliating to have not only a man that does not belong in my bedroom there, but also him seeing me in my safe space,” the woman wrote on Reddit

A woman is recounting the "humiliating" experience of having her boyfriend bring his co-worker into their bedroom without any warning while she was trying to sleep.

In a post on Reddit's "Am I the A------?" forum, the woman explained that the incident stemmed from a mishap with an Amazon order. She and her boyfriend purchased a new mattress and bed frame, but the frame arrived with a small crack in it. Amazon sent a new one as a replacement, and the boyfriend offered the damaged frame to one of his co-workers.

The woman said her boyfriend told her the night before that the co-worker would be coming the next day to pick it up, and she made it clear she did not want to be involved in the interaction. "I said, 'Cool, I'm not coming out of the bedroom unless I have to,' " she wrote, explaining, "I know this person and I do not like him for various reasons."

When the co-worker came to their home, the woman "vaguely heard them talking" but was half asleep. "Then I heard my boyfriend say something about showing him our bed, and I heard him say that I was in there but it was fine," she said.

"I kinda froze, half asleep and confused, until I hear them coming and I pulled the blankets over my head as my boyfriend announced coming in. I said very loudly 'Why??' And they just came in," the woman recalled, noting she was fortunately wearing "baggy clothes" at the time and not her "usual sleepwear."

She said she quickly grew "hot and stuffy" under the covers so ended up pulling them down, "and the guy was just standing there in the doorway and awkwardly said good morning."

"To which I replied very angrily good morning back and probably looked like I wanted to kill everyone there," she continued. "So my boyfriend showed off the bed and started to leave, to which I snapped at him for not shutting the door behind him on his way out."

After the co-worker left, the woman's boyfriend came back into the bedroom and she expressed her frustration over the incident, telling him, "I did not like that at all." She said he attempted to make a "half-a--ed apology" but she wasn't having it and snapped at him. "He turned around and left without a word," she wrote.

The woman went on to describe how the incident and its aftermath made her feel overwhelmed and uncomfortable.

"I shut the door completely and laid down, just sort of locked up in place. My whole body sort of just felt heavy and my chest hurt but I couldn't cry. It was just so humiliating to have not only a man that does not belong in my bedroom there, but also him seeing me in my safe space an absolute mess from sleeping was just horrible," she wrote.

The woman's disagreement with her boyfriend led to her choosing to sleep on the couch that night. She also "angrily texted" him about how much the incident upset her but he didn't reply.

Now, she is wondering if she's the "a-----" for how she reacted and asking fellow Redditors to weigh in with their opinions.

Her post received more than 420 comments, with the majority of commenters agreeing that the co-worker's entrance into her bedroom while she was sleeping was "humiliating and intrusive" and sympathizing with her emotional reaction to the overstepped boundary.

"I genuinely felt your emotions when I was reading that as if it was happening to me — what a strange violation," one person wrote.

Another commented, "It's your bedroom, your safe space. He had no right to bring someone in there while you were sleeping, [especially] someone you don't even like. He disrespected you big time. You need to have a serious talk with him about boundaries and how he's making you feel."

Several Reddit users, however, accused the woman of "overreacting," with one pointing out that she knew the co-worker would be coming and obviously would need to see the bed frame in the bedroom.

"He did tell you the night before the guy was coming to see the bed — like, how was he gonna look at it from the living room? I think you're overreacting, he was there the whole time he looked at the bed, made a decision and left," they wrote. "You're acting as if your boyfriend picked a random man off the streets and locked him in the room with you."

Someone else chimed in: "So you were completely covered in blankets AND clothing? The person stood only in the doorway. When your partner tried to apologize you 'cut him off.' He sucks for doing that, but your reaction was most certainly over the top."
