Woman celebrates eighth wedding anniversary to her pet dog
After giving up on men, Wilhelmina Morgan Callaghan decided to marry her pet dog. This year marks her eighth wedding anniversary to Sealyham Terrier, Henry, the Mirror reports.
And the 43-year-old has never been happier.
“Things have fallen apart somewhat since we married in 2009,” explained Belfast-born Callaghan. “I lost my job in a morgue, so was forced to become a freelance embalmer, there is not much money in that, and then my house flooded.”
She continued: “But Henry has been great throughout – he is so loyal. I call him ‘Ri’ which means ‘King’ in ancient Gaelic, because he is like a King – my King.”
Callaghan first adopted Henry in 2009 from a friend and soon discovered that you can marry your pet online. Though not legal in the UK, you are given a certificate and it is described as a ‘spiritual union’. And the 43-year-old’s friend Rebecca Carter was more than happy to act as witness.

But married life is not without its ups and downs, as Callaghan revealed that the couple do sometimes have arguments. Yet she is convinced that Henry is the one despite owning ten other pups.
“He’s been there for me more than any men have ever been. But, then, dogs are better than men. Unlike other marriages which fall apart, I know I’m with Henry for life,” she said.
The 43-year-old continued: “People may think I’m barking mad, but he’s perfect for me.”
