This couple tied the knot at their local Asda

You know every so often you hear one of those stories that warms your heart – well, this is on of those.

In this day and age there are a lot of ways to meet the love of your life, there’s Tinder, maybe even a speed date. However, you don’t often thing you’ll run into your future husband doing your weekly shop.

Well, that is exactly what happened to 55-year-old Gill Carter, and her now-husband Lee, 42. The pair locked eyes at their local ASDA cafe in Rawtenstall, when Lee gallantly invited Gill to share his table, because all the other seats were taken.

Little did they know that three years later they’d be tying the knot and returning to the supermarket chain for their reception.

The couple, who couldn’t afford a fancy reception venue decided that it would be fitting to hold the special occasion at the local Asda, as it was there ‘special place’.

So, after doing all the legal bits at Accrington Registry Office in Lancashire, they retired to the cafe where they met, which the dedicated staff had transformed into a beautiful wedding venue.

“It was lovely what they had done with the cafe, it looked wonderful.” said Gill.

She continued, “when the colleagues applauded us in, it made our hearts pitter patter. It was such a lovely thing to do. We had a fantastic day and all of our guests really enjoyed it too. The colleagues went all out to make it special.”

The couple who regularly shop at the Asda have also formed strong friendships with the shops staff, with Gill adding, “the staff are lovely – we regard them as our friends and it’s just a lovely place, with a great view of the hills.”

All we can say is that we hope the happy couple get loyalty points for life, and it’s true that they say, you really are ‘better off at Asda’.
