Who won the Great British Sewing Bee 2024?
Warning: Contains spoilers about the final episode of The Great British Sewing Bee.
It’s been a brilliant series of The Great British Sewing Bee and, after a gruelling final, the Sewing Bee 2024 winner has been announced.
The three finalists who made it through last week’s semi-final were Pascha, Luke and Ailsa, and it was left to judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young to decide who would be crowned winner of the sewing show, presented by Kiell Smith-Bynoe.
The final saw the sewers take on the most difficult challenges in the series. They had to make a pair of perfectly fitting opera gloves for the Pattern Challenge and transform party paraphernalia into a wearable party outfit in the Transformation Challenge.
But it was the Made to Measure challenge that was the real showstopper. Instead of the usual professional models, the three finalists each fitted their pieces to a friend or family member. For the first time in Sewing Bee history, they had to make an occasion wear outfit by draping on the model rather than following a pre-cut sewing pattern.
But ultimately, it was Luke who was crowned winner of The Great British Sewing Bee 2024. The diversity, equality and inclusions director has wowed the judges throughout the series with their bold, stylish designs and clever use of fabrics.
After Esme and Patrick announced Luke as the winner and handed them the gold trophy, they said: “Honestly, this just doesn't feel real. Never did I think I'd get close to the final, let alone win – this is wild!"
Luke continued: "I'm so proud of myself and I don't tend to say that a lot, but I'm really proud of myself."
Both Patrick and Esme were delighted to crown Luke the Sewing Bee winner. Esme said: “I'm very happy that Luke won. They were so creative and imaginative and got better and better.”
Patrick added: "Every single one of Luke's Made to Measures has been full of ambition. Today we saw skill, we saw drama and an absolute flair for making clothes that really catch the eye, and I think they're a wonderful winner".
Congratulations, Luke!
