Why Jonathan Bailey Missed The 2025 Golden Globes
While Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were scene stealers on the Golden Globes red carpet, their co-star Jonathan Bailey was missing in action. The actor’s absence isn’t all too surprising, as he hasn’t attended any awards show events this weekend and does not have an individual nomination.
He was last photographed at a Wicked photo call in November and is preparing to star in a West End production of Richard II, which opens on February 10. He told British Vogue last month that 'everything else is on pause until Richard II opens.'

While Bailey has no individual nods, Wicked was nominated in one of the biggest categories of last night's Golden Globes: Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

Last month, he spoke to British Vogue about the jarring shift between being home in Brighton, England, and immersing himself in his roles for work. 'It can be a hard, cold transition, so I get back to friends as soon as possible or I go traveling,' he said. 'I love Salento in Italy — I try and go every year.'
He addressed how equally brutal it was to adjust to a new level of fame. 'It felt quite hard-hitting after Bridgerton came out,' he said. 'I really struggled initially; I was overwhelmed by it. But the people in your life have to adapt too. That’s the hardest thing: you see them struggling before you see it in yourself, someone pushing past your dear mum and dad to get a picture. I’m really good now at saying no to photos.'
He had nothing but glowing things to say about Wicked, though: 'When I watched it, I sobbed,' he said. 'I think it’s a masterpiece.'
