There’s no denying that the past year has made green-fingered gods of us all, whether we had an expanse of outdoor spaces or perfectly-preened window boxes to tend.

And though we can’t profess to be experts in the art of gardening (regardless of what our social media might suggest), we do know that if you’re looking to add the 'wow' factor to your garden or home, peonies are the perfect plant.

With peony season in full swing, we’re rounded up all the ways you can get your hands on the beautiful blooms.

For those looking to brighten up your working space or to add a burst of colour to your lounge, you can purchase a variety of pre-picked bunches - many of which will fit through your letterbox, with prices starting at £29.99.

If you're planting from scratch, then it’s worth noting that these vibrant flowers often don’t bloom in the first year, so you may have a while to wait before your garden is transformed.

However, once in bloom they are a pretty low maintenance, high impact plant to love year after year.

But with the peony hype spreading round the country quicker than you can say “let’s get planting!”, finding where to buy the plants online can prove tricky.

Don’t worry though, we’ve rounded up the best places to order ready-to-display or start-from-scratch peonies online.

Where to buy peony seeds for your garden

Before we share the places we’ve found peony seeds, here’s a quick lesson in how to plant them properly.

Bare-root peony plants should be planted as soon as they arrive. Peonies are best planted in autumn or spring.

Ensure you don’t plant them too deeply, as this will yield poor results. Mix in plenty of well-rotted organic matter before planting and apply a balanced fertiliser in spring.

You should avoid overwatering newly planted peonies, as this is a common cause of plant failure.

Paeonia suffruticosa Peonies in Mixed Colours | £49.95 from Gardening Express

Tree Peonies are notoriously expensive, highly sought after plants, so stocks of these are often very limited.

These mixed colour peonies are already growing in pots, some even have flower buds already forming for blooming in a few weeks time - so you can forget about bare roots that will need a lot of extra care and attention.
