What A Wedding That Costs More Than The Oscars Looks Like

Most of us wrestle with the idea of throwing a £20,000 wedding, so splurging some £20m on tying the knot seems completely bonkers.

Even if you’ve got that much spare cash lying around, is it worth spending that amount on one day? Clearly Kate and Wills thought so (their wedding is estimated to have cost Britain a cool £22m) – as did 26-year-old Chinese star Angela Yeung.

The Chinese actress, singer and model (known by her stage name “Angelababy”) wed her actor beau Huang Xiaoming in a lavish ceremony on October 8 that, according to Forbes, cost the pair the jaw-dropping sum.

Although Yeung’s dubbed the “Kim Kardashian of China”, the US reality star’s big day was a splash in the pond in comparison, ringing in at a somewhat modest £7m.

However, when you factor in the in-demand venue, the holographic castle (yes, really), the custom-made Dior gown and the million pound ring, you start to get an idea of how Yeung and Xiaoming spent quite so much.

The pair tied the knot at the Shanghai Exhibition Center with over 2,000 guests – each of which skipped home clutching a gift bag that included a mobile phone and who knows what else.

There was also a 10-foot carousel cake (that took a month to make) for the attendees to tuck into, a giant wall of flowers and stain-glass window lights. And let’s not forget the pre-wedding photo shoot that featured the bride in a couple of custom Elie Saab gowns.

But back to *that* dress. The bespoke Dior dress was as regal as Alexander McQueen number the Duchess of Cambridge wore and arguably outshone Kardahian’s Givenchy.

The ivory satin organza frock took five months, and five fittings, to make and featured beautiful lace embroidery, sheer sleeves and a whopping 10-foot train. It even boasted approximately 100 handmade rose bouquets crafted out of Chantilly lace.

Accompanied by a diamond tiara and a six-caret Chaumet engagement ring, it really was out of this world.
