The Weeknd has released the title track of his new studio album After Hours, months after his high-profile split from ex-girlfriend Bella Hadid.

On Wednesday, the 30-year-old musician released the song ahead of his album’s release in which he sings about lost love and hurting a former romantic interest.

A sample of lyrics from the song read:

Oh, baby, where are you now when I need you most? / I give it all just to hold you close / Sorry that I broke your heart.

Other lyrics include ‘I wanna share babies’, ‘Didn't wanna wake up 'less you were beside me’ and ‘Can't hide the truth, I stayed with her in spite of you’.

While it's unknown whether the singer is referring to his romance with Hadid in his new song, in November, the Canadian singer released his single ‘Heartless’ which appeared to reference their split.

However, he also used some pretty derogatory sexual terms to discuss women in the track, which people were less impress with.

At the beginning of the song, The Weekend, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, sings:

I've been runnin' through the pussy, need a dog pound /Hundred models gettin' faded in the compound.

Later in the song, the singer seemingly references his and the supermodel’s decision to rekindle their romance after his broke up with Selena Gomez.

Tesfaye split from the model in 2017 before they briefly got back together in May 2018 and finally called it quits last summer.

The lyrics read:

You just came back in my life / You never gave up on me (Why don't you?) / I'll never know what you see (Why won't you?)/ I don't do well when alone (Oh yeah)/ You hear it clear in my tone.

In his last album My Dear Melancholy (2018), the singer also sang about the end of his relationship with Gomez, most notable in his song ‘Hurt You’.

'And now I know relationship's my enemy / So stay away from me / I'm warning you,’ a line of the song’s lyrics read.

In recent months, The Weeknd has dipped his toe into acting and made a cameo in the new Adam Sandler film Uncut Gems.
