Wedding Coordinator Saves Wedding Day After Caterer Flakes

The bride's sister wrote on Reddit that the couple's wedding coordinator was thankfully able to find a backup caterer to serve food within the wedding budget

For one bride, her wedding coordinator made all the difference at her nuptials.

A Redditor shared in a post on the platform's popular "Am I the A------?" forum that she decided to pay for the catering service as a “gift to her” sister for her wedding — however, a miscommunication almost threatened to ruin the whole event.

She said that her sister chose a caterer who had “glowing” reviews on Facebook and Google, and was “easy to communicate with” as they often picked up the phone quickly or would call back when she sent them a message. Her sister’s wedding coordinator also got the number of the caterer to make sure “she could be in touch with them as well.”

“Everything seemed great! There was communication all through the week of the wedding,” she wrote.

She continued, “Then the day of…  I get a call from the caterer, and somehow he's had it in his head this whole time that the wedding was not today, but the next weekend.”

The woman explained that the caterer had been planning to open a restaurant, and while she thought it was supposed to open the weekend before, he ended up “accidentally double [booking] himself” with her sister’s wedding and the restaurant opening.

“So, I'm hyperventilating on the phone with him, with a piping bag in my hand,” recalled the Redditor, who was also making the cakes for the wedding at the time.

“The coordinator grabs the phone and starts doing her coordinator thing. She scolds him because he chose to open his new restaurant instead of [doing] this job. Then she said they'd talk more later, because now she needs to find last-minute food for 200 people.”

She said the coordinator did just that and “called another catering service that she worked with before” to check if they had any “extra food” they could lend to the wedding. The catering service confirmed that they were able to cover the wedding and were within the “budget” set aside for the wedding. What’s more, the coordinator’s partner even picked up the food and brought it to the wedding.

“The food was incredible and I can only hope that it tasted even better than what was originally supposed to be served,” the woman said. “Long story short, OVER COMMUNICATE with your vendors, and get a bad-a-- coordinator.”

She noted in an update that she did get a “full refund” from the original caterer and the coordinator's company paid for the last-minute caterer, which she paid off in “installments.”

Several commenters praised the wedding coordinator for her work, including one person who commented, “Yay! Just plain happy for you and spectacular coordinator who made lemonade from lemons😂🍾🍾🍾.”

Another person reiterated the importance of wedding coordinators, noting that the job is “not glamorous work” since they have to work with wedding “drama,” “nightmare situations like this” and a lot of “moving parts.”
