Harry and Meghan’s polo documentary shows off ‘dirty, sweaty boys riding’
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s new documentary is to explore the “sexy sport” of polo, according to its new trailer, which promises to showcase “dirty, sweaty boys...riding”.
The couple are executive producers for the Netflix show, called Polo, created by their media company, Archewell Productions.
Its first full-length advertisement is cut in a reality television-style with soaring music and snippets of drama about the players’ rivalries and personal lives.
Netflix says the five-part series will give an “exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the fast-paced and glamorous world of polo”.
One female contributor, interviewed on camera, says of polo: “For sure it’s glamorous. It’s a sexy sport too.”
Laughing to the camera, she adds: “Dirty, sweating boys...riding.”
In accompanying promotional material for the programme, described as a “high-octane series”, Prince Harry said: “This series offers audiences an unprecedented, behind-the-scenes look into the passion and determination driving some of the world’s elite polo players, revealing the grit behind the glamour.
“We’re proud to showcase the true depth and spirit of the sport – and the intensity of its high-stakes moments.”
The show will be streamed from Dec 10 and follows elite global players on and off the field as they compete in the US Open Polo Championship in Wellington, Florida.
It is expected to include footage of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who were seen in situ during filming, but they are not listed among the key people featured and do not appear in the trailer.
Their names are included as executive producers.
The programme is the fourth effort from Archewell Productions, which has previously released three documentaries with Netflix as part of a multimillion-pound, multi-year deal .
Heart Of Invictus, which aired last August, followed a group of service members on their road to the Invictus Games, the Paralympic-style sporting competition set up by Prince Harry in 2014 for injured and sick military personnel and veterans.
Netflix also released the documentary series Live To Lead and the controversial six-part Harry & Meghan documentary in December 2022.
The polo programme will feature Prince Harry’s friend Nacho Figueras, an Argentinian player credited as an expert and consulting producer.
Netflix said: “The world of polo – like many equestrian sports – has earned a reputation as a rarefied one, dripping with glamour and wealth.
“On the field, however, the game is about perseverance and grit, as two teams of four players on horseback battle it out to score as many goals as they can.”
