Unique barn featured in Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen’s Outrageous Homes for sale
A unique barn featured in the new series of Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen's Outrageous Homes is now for sale.
Built as a modern 21st-century folly, the three-building estate is located in Stratford-upon-Avon and was originally inspired by Treasure Island. While the outside looks like a traditional barn, the inside space is bursting with interesting features, including a tropical palm tree and an outdoor chess set.
Commissioned by the late Felix Dennis, founder of Dennis Publishing, he combined his passion for the swashbuckling adventure story and his love of tithe barns to create an entertainer's paradise.
Comprising two external cottages and the main barn, which is referred to as Highfield, the primary building has north and south wings which are linked by an awe-inspiring pool area.
But that's not all: there's also a solarium, sauna, steam room, aquarium, plant rooms, an Art Deco-inspired cinema room, plus a bar and entertainment area. And for those with a number of vehicles, there’s even an underground parking area and turntable.
Meanwhile, the north wing of the barn houses a bedroom, bathroom, changing area and laundry room, while the south wing accommodates a themed kitchen, dining room, another bedroom, a study and an open gallery, with traditional wooden beams flowing from one part of the home to the next.
Within the grounds, there are also a pair of charming semi-detached thatched cottages, which is where you'll find the remaining four bedrooms. Each cottage – known as 1 and 2 Old Manor Lodge – has their own entrance porch and hallway, sitting room, kitchen/dining room, two double bedrooms, a shower room and conservatory, as well as a single garage.
Despite being modernised in 1992, both cottages have retained many of their original features, with them being a little more subdued than the main house.
Outside, formal lawned areas and apple orchards surround the property. The house also has direct access to the arboretum and Heart of England Forest, perfect for those who like to get outdoors to explore.
There's also a large permanent pasture paddock, plus an oak framed barn which currently serves as a general purpose store and gardener offices.
For those looking to explore further afield, the Honeybourne train station connects the area to London Paddington in less than two hours, while the riverside village of Bidford-on-Avon is less than a few miles away.
'This truly unique home was inspired by the adventure novel "Treasure Island" and is the largest green oak barn construction in the last 300 years,' says Jamie Robson, Associate in Knight Frank's Country Department comments.
The property is currently on the market for £3,650,000 via Knight Frank. Catch up on the new series of Outrageous Homes on channel4.com.
