UK's favourite Tesco meal deal revealed as internet fumes over 'shock' inclusion
The nation's favourite Tesco meal deal has been revealed - but one item has left social media in "shock". The humble supermarket meal deal has become something of a cultural phenomenon in the UK over the last few years.
A meal deal consists of three items - a main (often a sandwich), a drink and a snack (commonly crisps or confectionery). Most retailers sell a version of the meal deal, and everyone has their preferred combo.
For the past two years, the UK’s favourite combo for the "iconic" Tesco lunchtime meal deal has been the Sausage Bacon & Egg Triple, McCoy's Flame Grilled Steak Grab Bag Crisps 45g, and Coca-Cola 500ml.

But 2024 saw tastes change, with a new favourite meal deal taking the crown. The new combo, according to the grocery giant, is Tesco Chicken Club Sandwich for main, Tesco Egg Protein Pot as the most popular snack, and Coca-Cola 500ml as the returning top drink.
Foodies on X, previously Twitter, were left astonished by the results. One user raged: "No wonder this country is a mess if an ‘egg protein pot’ is the most popular snack in a meal deal."
Another penned: "Need answers about this because the egg protein pot is the most popular meal deal snack?" while a third wrote: "Is the nation okay cause why is this the go to meal deal combo of 2024?"
Tesco shoppers went straight to the supermarket's much-loved year in review, Clubcard Unpacked, which provides a personalised annual shopping summary to customers - basically like a grocery version of Spotify Wrapped.
By watching a run-down of what they've been tucking into in 2024, customers can see and share the results of what their own most shopped Meal Deal items were - and perhaps influence what the top combo will be for 2025.
Some excited people ran to share their results on X. One wrote: "Always love Tesco clubcard wrapped… reminding me of the best meal deal ever…… according to me and 29 other people with immense taste".
Another added: "I will die on this hill. This is the best meal deal."
The year in review began rolling out to eligible Clubcard members from January 6. More than 18 million people are due to receive their round-up, and might be moved to share their meal deal go-to amid the controversy.
